Governance
The Corporate Governance of the Society, as a Company Limited by Guarantee, is assured through the Board of Directors and the Society's Members.
Directors
The Board of Hertfordshire Society for the Blind is comprised of voluntary, unpaid Directors who give of their time freely to ensure that the Society is given strategic direction and that its work is regularly reviewed. Without its Directors, Hertfordshire Society for the Blind could not operate as a limited company.
The Directors are appointed by the Society's Members at the company Annual General Meeting. The current Board Directors are:
- Mr J Farrant (Acting Chairman)
- Ms J Bart
- Mr A Bradburn
- Mr K Harding
- Mrs S Harper
- Mr A James *
- Mr P Linnegar

Members
As a Company Limited by Guarantee and not having a Share Capital, Hertfordshire Society for the Blind does not have Shareholders but instead has Members.
Members work in a similar way to Shareholders in that they elect (and re-elect) Directors to the Board and approve the Society's Annual Report and Accounts. They also have the opportunity to influence the Society's activities through the Annual General Meeting.
Members are therefore an essential part of the Society's Corporate Governance and are necessary for it to be able to operate as a Limited Company.
Becoming a Member involves a one-off payment of £1, which entitles someone to remain a Member of the Society for life.
If you are interested in becoming a Member, please contact the Society for further details and a Members Application Form, or download and print off a Members Application Form
